Mens sana ad corpus sanum : Un modèle de motivation-stress-santé appliqué au couple et au travail

    Get PDF
The present article takes position regarding the proverb "a healthy mind in a healthy body". A review of the literature suggests that, in fact, a healthy mind is as important if not more for a healthy body. Empirical evidence is presented to show the impact of psycho-social stressors on negative affect and on mental as well as physical health. The authors propose that motivation as well as the innate need for self-determination, competence, and relatedness play a crucial role in the understanding of the antecedants and consequences of psychological stress as well as for well-being and health. A model summarizing the theoretical and empirical work of our laboratory in the fields of relationships and work, two areas, central to adult life, is presented

Digital Feedback for Digital Work? Affordances and Constraints of a Feedback App at InsurCorp

    Get PDF
Little is known about how digital work shapes the exchange of performance feedback, even though today’s digital and global world demands for more continuous feedback than annual reviews. This research investigates a feedback app in a naturalistic context within a globally leading financial service corporation (InsurCorp). Drawing on malleability and voluntary participation, the app offers possibilities to send and request feedback between employees. Rich contextual insights from a multinational pilot study with 568 users are gained by triangulating qualitative data from 21 semi-structured interviews and69 feedback app user reviews with usage data. Anchored in the theory of affordances, we provide insights on use practices and find that the app affords operational-level feedback exchange on specific subjects, while general feedback on sensitive topics is preferably exchanged in person. To understand actualization facilitators and barriers, we take a social-technical systems perspective to elaborate contextual factors that influence the individual’s actualization decision

Cellular expression and crystal structure of the murine cytomegalovirus MHC-Iv glycoprotein, m153

    Get PDF
Mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV), a β-herpesvirus that establishes latent and persistent infections in mice, is a valuable model for studying complex virus-host interactions. MCMV encodes the m145 family of putative immunoevasins with predicted MHC-I structure. Functions attributed to some family members include downregulation of host MHC-I (m152) and NKG2D ligands (m145, m152, m155) and interaction with inhibitory or activating NK receptors (m157). We present the cellular, biochemical and structural characterization of m153, which is a heavily glycosylated homodimer, that does not require β2m or peptide, and is expressed at the surface of MCMV-infected cells. Its 2.4 Å crystal structure confirms that this compact molecule preserves an MHC-I-like fold and reveals a novel mode of dimerization, confirmed by site-directed mutagenesis, and a distinctive disulfide-stabilized extended amino terminus. The structure provides a useful framework for comparative analysis of the divergent members of the m145 family

Computed tomographic coronary angiography in patients with surgically treated type A aortic dissection: preliminary results

    Get PDF
Acute type A aortic dissection is a serious emergency with a mortality rate of up to 40% within the first 24h when left untreated. Surgical therapy needs to be initiated promptly. Due to this urgent situation, preoperative evaluation of the coronary arteries is not routinely performed in these patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of 64-slice computed tomography angiography (CTA) for postoperative coronary artery assessment in these patients. Ten consecutive patients with two or more cardiovascular risk factors were prospectively enrolled. Patients had type A aortic dissection treated surgically with a supracoronary graft of the ascending aorta. Performance of CTA to exclude significant stenosis (>50% lumen narrowing) and/or coronary artery dissection was compared with quantitative coronary angiography. A total of 147 segments were evaluated. Three segments (2%) were excluded from analysis. CTA correctly assessed one of three significant stenoses in three patients and correctly excluded coronary artery disease (CAD) in six of ten patients. One patient was rated false positive. Overall accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of CT for identifying coronary artery disease by segment was 98%, 33%, 99%, 50%, and 99%, respectively (P < 0.05). By patient, it was 70%, 33%, 86%, 50%, and 75%, respectively. No coronary artery dissection was found. Noninvasive CTA may be a viable alternative to conventional angiography for postoperative coronary artery evaluation in patients with surgically treated type A aortic dissection and cardiovascular risk factors. An NPV of 99% should allow for reliable exclusion of CAD. Further studies with higher patient numbers are warrante

Assessing Stress Resilience After Smolt Transportation by Waterborne Cortisol and Feeding Behavior in a Commercial Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Grow-Out Recirculating Aquaculture System

Sampling protocols and water quality sensors have been developed to assess fish health and welfare in recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs). Still, the use of fish-based non-invasive welfare indicators, reflecting the physiological state of the fish, is limited in this type of system. Cortisol, the major stress-coping hormone in fish, diffuses through the gills. Consequently, waterborne cortisol is a potential fish-based non-invasive welfare indicator in RAS. However, its use in commercial rearing systems is sparse. In this study, we evaluated water cortisol levels and feeding behavior as welfare indicators of newly inserted smolt in a commercial RAS for harvest size Atlantic salmon. The RAS consisted of two parallel fish rearing raceways, raceways 1 and 2, sharing the same water treatment with common outlets and inlets. The smolts were inserted in raceway 1 while salmon that have been in the system for 6 months or more were kept in raceway 2. The smolt insertion period was 3 days. Samples for water cortisol levels were withdrawn the day before, 1 and 3 days after the smolt insertion period. Smolt insertion resulted in elevated water cortisol concentrations in the entire system, with the highest values in raceway 1, one day after smolt insertion. Estimated cortisol production in newly inserted smolt decreased over time, was similar to what has been reported in salmon adapting to experimental tanks. Feeding behavior indicated that the appetite was not fully resumed in the newly inserted smolts, while the appetite of fish in raceway 2 was unaffected by smolt insertion. These results, obtained in a highly intensive commercial RAS, suggest that waterborne cortisol together with feeding behavior can be used as indicators for adaptive processes associated with stress resilience in farmed fish. Thus, they are promising non-invasive indicators for assessing the impact of potential stressors on fish welfare in this type of rearing system.publishedVersio
